The Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law is published twice a year by students at the University of Texas School of Law. The only entirely student-run journal in the country devoted exclusively to promoting scholarship in the energy legal field, TJOGEL has published over 1,300 pages of analysis of legal issues affecting the energy industry and has circulated over 9,000 copies to attorneys, professors, judges, law students, and industry professionals worldwide.
The Journal consists of articles written by judges, professors, and practitioners on all subject matter related to oil, gas, and energy law. One piece written by a student at The University of Texas School of Law or another law school is published in the Note & Comment section in each issue of the journal. The Recent Developments section consists of several short, informal articles regarding recent developments in oil, gas, and energy law as well as Texas and Federal oil, gas, and energy case summaries.
In addition to publishing articles on oil, gas, and energy topics twice a year, the Journal hosts numerous educational and networking events. The annual two-day Continuing Legal Education symposium focuses on cutting-edge issues facing the energy industry. Past symposia have included topics relating to recent developments in alternative energy, international energy transactions, and a survey of current issues in the energy industry. The symposium is always held in conjunction with the Journal’s annual banquet where the University of Texas School of Law’s prestigious award, the Ernest E. Smith Lifetime Achievement Award, is given to a practitioner who has made significant contributions to the oil, gas, and energy community. Other events hosted by the Journal for students and attorneys include the Fall Career Panel, monthly roundtable luncheons, and happy hour events.
The entire TJOGEL community is comprised of TJOGEL’s Board of Advisors, board and staff members on the Journal, and members of the Texas Oil & Gas Law Society. TJOGEL would not be possible without the generous support and donations from TJOGEL’s sponsors, the readership of TJOGEL’s subscribers, and the members of the oil, gas, and energy law community who participate in and attend Journal events.
