TJOGEL Spring Write On
The Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law is now holding its spring write-on.  TJOGEL is the nation’s premier student-edited energy law journal.  In addition to publishing two issues a year, TJOGEL hosts an annual symposium, career panels, happy hours, and roundtable luncheons.  The spring write-on is open to all UT Law students, including 1Ls.  Journal members are required to complete 20 hours of editing and attend a handful of events each semester.  In order to apply, students must fill out a short application (available at the Information Desk) and provide their resume as well as a writing sample and statement of interest by Feb. 1. 1Ls are encouraged to use the discussion section from the memos they submitted for their legal writing class.  Completed applications can be returned to the TJOGEL mailbox at the Information Desk.If you have any questions regarding the write-on or TJOGEL membership, please contact Alex Rosegren at arosegren@gmail.com.

Texas Energy Law Association

TJOGEL would like to announce the formation of the Texas Energy Law Association.  The Texas Energy Law Association (TELA) is a charitable and educational tax-exempt organization that supports, promotes, and encourages legal education, research, and writing in the area of energy law. The primary focus of TELA is to act as an advisory and support resource to the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law and its members. TELA’s purpose is to serve as an alumni association that strives to:

  • cultivate the leadership of the journal by providing academic scholarships,
  • strengthen the financial position of the journal through long-term fiscal planning,
  • foster energy law employment opportunities for journal members and alumni, and
  • encourage post-graduation involvement in the journal.

The organization shall always act in the best interests of the journal and to further the mission of the journal.

TELA was formed by the journal’s first five Editors-in-Chief. The former editors had a collective vision to create an alumni organization that would support the Journal as needed. Ultimately, they incorporated a non-profit organization, seeded it with their own money, and now seek the involvement of other alumni who share their interest in maintaining a vibrant connection between student and industry networks.  In the last five years, almost two hundred University of Texas Law students have been members of either the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law or its society program. With the creation of TELA it is possible to continue that involvement after leaving the law school.  TELA’s inaugural Board of Directors includes:

  • Nicholas Franklin, President – Attorney, Franklin Law Corp.
  • Brandon Seale, Treasurer – Lewis Energy Group
  • Leslie Ritchie Robnett – Attorney, Gardere Wynne Sewell
  • Becky Diffen – Attorney, Vinson & Elkins
  • Danielle Mangrum – Attorney, Vinson & Elkins
  • Chad Smith – Editor-in-Chief, Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, & Energy Law
